Saw a video on Facebook with the title 10 Things You Need to Give Up If You Want to Be Happy and wanted to write down the list.

1. Limiting beliefs
2. Dwelling on the past
3. Worrying about the future
4. Negative self talk
5. The need to impress others
6. Complaining
7. The need to be always right
8. Resistance to change
9. Blaming others
10. The need for others approval

Feel good lists are great. They make you feel good. I like their list. #4, #7 and #10 could collapse into one, giving up the need to change others. For #9 prefer just blaming to blaming others, which then goes nicely with #6 Blaming and complaining

Without thinking too much about this, would keep

1. Limiting beliefs
2. Dwelling on the past
3. Worrying about the future
4. Negative self talk
5. Changing others to suit yourself
6. Blaming and complaining
7.
8. Resistance to change
9.
10.

Taking from other sources:

1. No limiting beliefs. For the religious minded, God is infinite. All things are possible for God. There is not one way to go through life. Each life is unique. If something is possible, that something is possible for you.

2 and 3. Do not dwell on the past nor worry about the future. Dale Carnegie wrote is Stop Worrying and Start Living, live in day tight compartments.

4. No negative self talk. Peter McWilliams wrote You Cannot Afford the Luxury of a Negative Thought.

5. Do not change others to suit yourself. That one is mine, from my dance classes. Everyone learns what they learn in their own time, not what you want them to learn in your time.

8. Resistance to change. Also from my dance classes, if you want to get to the next level, you have to learn to do something you cannot do.

My modified version of their list, is now:

1. No limiting beliefs
2. No dwelling on the past or worrying about the future
3. No negative self talk
4. Do not change others to suit yourself
5. No blaming or complaining
6. Give up resistance to change.

#2 and #3 can collapse into one. No negative self talk is the cleanest way to phrase all of those ideas, but I do like Peter McWilliams and Dale Carnegie's words so much, that in this next version of the list I kept them both.

Take responsibility has to come first. The new list, reordered is:

1. Take responsibility
2. Embrace the possible
2. Live in day tight compartments
3. You cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought
4. Accept others for where they are at
6. Learn to do what you cannot do yet

Or in the simplest version:

5 Thoughts to Keep You Happy

1. Take responsibility
2. Embrace the possible
3. No negative self talk
4. Accept others
5. Learn to do what you cannot do yet
